New Trail Signs

More signage news from around the world from Hants and Dorset Signs as The City of Frankfort’s Department of Parks, Recreation and Historic Sites will open a new system of trails in the Leslie Morris Park on Fort Hill with a ribbon-cutting ceremony this week. The new trails open to public use much of the 125-acre park that has been inaccessible until now. Shaped like a giant figure eight, the trails offer one paved loop and one with a natural surface. Interpretive stations along the way explain the natural features beside the trails.

Walkers can learn about how woodlands change over time and the relationships between people and their natural environment. Each interpretive station has a bench and explanatory signage.

One trail loop is named Goin Trail in honor of Sanford Goin who was a member of the garrison of Fort Boone that repulsed a Civil War Confederate cavalry raid on Frankfort in 1864. Fort Boone is one of two earthwork forts in the park.
