Signs Tweaked

More signage news from around the world from Hants and Dorset Signs as the town of Fuquay-Varina might make adjustments to its sign ordinance next month, giving nonprofits more chances to publicize community events. The planning department is looking at ways to relax signage rules for groups running free, public programs.

The move comes at the request of town commissioner Cindy Sheldon."We're trying to reach a happy medium with what citizens want and what businesses need," she said.

For years, Fuquay-Varina streets were littered with mattress sale banners and "going out of business" signs for retailers that weren't actually closing.

"There was a going out of business sale every freaking day," Sheldon said. "We've had businesses who had those signs up for more than a year."
