Except this billboard wasn't selling any product. Instead, it exposed the messy romantic life of one of America's most powerful business execs.
The man who was pictured in the billboard is Charles E. Phillips. He is co-president of Oracle, the world's largest business software company, and a special economic adviser to President Obama. The woman shown alongside him is not his wife Karen, who filed for divorce in 2008.
The Wall Street Journal also notes that Oracle has scheduled a major press conference on Jan. 27 to discuss its recent merger with Sun Microsystems. That leads some to believe that the billboard campaign was designed to disrupt and sabotage the event and Phillips' role in it.
Whatever the actual reason, the parties' involved are remaining tight-lipped. (Not counting messages sent with giant signage, of course.)
